What is U3A?
The University of the Third Age (U3A) caters for the age of active retirement following the
first two ages of youth and work/homemaking.
U3A is an organisation which is totally run and staffed by volunteers. It is a great place to
meet like-minded people, enjoy good company and participate in a whole range of courses
and leisure activities.
History of U3A
The University of the Third Age was established in France in 1972 and now has members
throughout Europe, UK, Asia and NZ, with associate organisations in North and South
America.
In 1984 the first U3As were formed in Melbourne, based on the British model, and spread
throughout Australia by 1989. Now over 60,000 members enjoy educational, social,
physical and creative activities that are offered.
U3A Moorleigh
U3A Moorleigh was established in 1988 and moved to its present location in East Bentleigh
in 1994.
Courses are held on each weekday - three sessions each day on a wide variety of topics.
Some courses are held away from the main site at Brighton and Beaumaris Senior
Citizens' Clubs.
